Building Green is important so we leave our planet in better condition for our children to enjoy. We reviewed products and construction techniques to include the following which not only save energy cost but provides good stewardship of natural resources and increases the aesthetics and value of the home. 

Energy Saving Features: 

  • Year-round comfort with heating and air conditioning is provided by an Energy Efficient Heat Pump. 
  • The frame of the home is caulked and sealed with Tyvek House Wrap used to increase thermal integrity. Blown Fiberglass insulation achieves an R 49 Value in the ceiling and an R 23 Value in the walls. Fiberglass Batt Insulation is used to insulate the unconditioned basement space from the conditioned basement space on the first floor. Hot Water Lines are insulated in the basement. 
  • Nationally known Simonton Windows and Patio Doors feature energy-saving Low E glass with Argon Gas between the panes. 
  • Energy Saver Water Heater is enhanced with an extended warranty. 

National Association of Home Builders Model Green Home Building Guidelines Include: 

  • Footer Drain to Sump Pump – To remove water away from the foundation 
  • Interior Wall Paint – Exceeds the requirement for Low VOC’s 
  • Carpeting – Qualifies for the Carpet & Rug Institute’s indoor air quality testing program 
  • Exhaust Fans in all bath areas sized to meet required air draw for room size 
  • Recessed Lights in Bathrooms – Extended soffits with blocker keeping cans out of unconditioned space 
  • Energy-Star Dishwasher 
  • High Efficient Heating Systems 
  • Faucets & Showerheads – Meets or exceeds the standard flow rate requirements for water savings. 
  • Bottom frame plate is caulked, space between the window and door jambs, and the frame is insulated. 
  • Electric, Heating, and Plumbing penetrations between floors are sealed off with foam. 
  • Tyvek House Wrap – Provides air and water-resistant barrier between the siding and the framed wall. 
  • Energy Star Rated Vinyl Patio door from Simonton 
  • Pre-cut wall studs for exterior and interior walls limits waste. 
  • Engineered Roof Truss Systems – Pre-manufactured and designed to limit waste. 
  • Ice and Water Shield – Protects the roof sheathing and keeps water/ice from entering walls and attic 
  • Radon Reduction System vented through the roof 
  • 6 Mill Vapor Barrier under concrete addresses moisture 
  • Enhanced Foundation waterproofing with Polymer Modified Membrane coating to grade. 
  • Detailed Framing and Material Take Off list to minimize waste. 
  • Roof Drip Edge directs water runoff into the gutters and away from the fascia and sheathing. 
  • Building Envelope is framed to maximize insulation including continuous insulation at box sills 
  • Alex Plus caulking – Low VOC sealant 
  • Gutter and Downspouts divert water from the foundation 
  • Pex Plumbing – direct hot and cold water and shortest runs to each bath or fixture. 
  • Surface water is diverted to natural drainage per code. 
  • Gas or LP Fireplace (if applicable) – Direct vent sealed combustion chamber 
  • Mask or block off HVAC vents during construction
