Did you know that old propane tanks, regardless of size, should not be placed in your recycling bin? While the tank is metal, placing them in your recycling bin causes issues for recycling centers.
So – what do you do with your old propane tank? If you have made the choice to refill the tank, problem solved. Or you can explore the many ‘tank exchange’ programs offered by larger retailers. If you need to get rid of an old propane tank and do not need a new one or need to refill it, you may bring it to some recycling locations for free or for a small fee.
Go to your local County website and there could be a list of County recycling locations which handle accepting old propane tanks. For smaller propane canisters, there are some steps you must take in order to dispose of these canisters. Some directions to recycle your old canisters can be found at http://www.outdooes.org/publications/outdoors/2014/equipped/how-do-you-recycle-a-used-stove-fuel-canister.cfm
Keep on grilling…and dispose of those old tanks safely.
