Artists rendering of a front porch The child of today, having grown up with his gadgets and video games would probably think it very boring. But to the family of the mid-1800’s, sitting on a front porch, taking in the surroundings, cooled by a gentle breeze and conversing with the neighbors, was a welcome daily activity.

“Porch-sitting” or to some, “porching,” transcended the porch from the early days of being merely ornamental (a luxury enjoyed by only the very rich) or primarily functional (for those in hotter climates) to being one of the most sought-after features on a home.

Fine Line Homes has several home plans which include a porch.
