Summer is upon us in full swing and you are most likely using your air conditioning on a regular basis. To be sure you are using the air conditioner to its fullest cost effective means, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First and foremost, the filter must be cleaned and maintained on a regular basis. This should be done about every six weeks or so to insure that the filter is clean and free of dust, dirt and debris. It is very simple to check the filter on the indoor unit which is usually located in the basement but can sometimes be located in the attic. In most instances with a heat pump it is located horizontally and with a GEO-thermal unit it is in a vertical position at the indoor unit.
The fan switch on the thermostat control should be in the “on” position. This helps to circulate air throughout the house while in the air conditioning mode. You will also want to keep the condensation line clean for removal of the water vapor that is collected when you are using the air conditioner. A lot of water vapor is removed from the house at this time of year. Finally be sure to have your unit serviced annually by a certified technician.
With these few tips and items to check you should have a trouble free air conditioning season and a more comfortable summer.
